Pregnant and postpartum mothers are uniquely vulnerable to periodontal disease and tooth loss.

Tooth loss in US women is more strongly impacted by the number of children birthed than smoking or frequency of dental care visits.1Here are the facts:

  • 60-75% of women develop ginvigitis during pregnancy.2

  • 30-40% of pregnant women develop periodontitis (bone damage) from untreated gingivitis. 3

  • 56% of pregnant women never visit a dentist during their pregnancy.4

Maternal oral health remains a gendered health disparity around the world. Accessible diagnostic care, that meets women where they are, is essential.

MaternaDx aims to close the gap.

No labs, no prescriptions. We're making a saliva-based test you can pick up on a grocery run, and get results in 15 minutes at home.

Who we are

I studied economics and environmental science at the University of Michigan, and I’ve spent years researching how systemic gaps affect wellbeing. I started this project because I grew up expecting to lose a tooth for every pregnancy I'll have. That was the experience of many women in my family, but I believe it's something 21st century parents should not have to worry about.I'm co-founding MaternaDx with my husband, a fellow scientist and a coder nerd.Join us on our mission to break the link between motherhood and periodontal disease.
